Benni Jorgensen

My name is Benni Jørgensen and I have been making pipes since 1980. I live and work in the beautiful area of southern Zealand 100 km from Copenhagen, Denmark. Initially I was trained to be a carpenter and I worked as such for approximately 10 years. Being a pipesmoker I visited the W.Ø. Larsen shop in Copenhagen where I was fascinated by the crafts of pipemaking. By chance I found out that pipemaker Teddy Knudsen had his workshop a few kilometers from my home. I visited him to watch and get good advice and I bought my first materials from him. This is when our friendship and long lasting working relation started.

My first customers were German wholesalers and half a year later I had gathered enough courage to present my pipes to W.Ø. Larsen. That is when we made the deal that they would buy all the pipes I was able to make. This deal was to last long. For 20 years I made straight grain pipes for W.Ø. Larsen, the first 10 along with Teddy Knudsen. When Teddy stopped making pipes for W.Ø. Larsen, I continued for another 5 years. Since the year 2000 I have been selling my pipes under my own name; Bennipipes.

For some years I shared my workshop with my son, pipemaker Lasse Skovgaard. Now he is working on his own but he still does the blasting in my workshop.

Today the majority of my pipes are sold in China, U.S. and Europe. The smooth pipes come in 4 grades: group 1, 2, 3 and Swan which is the national bird of Denmark. They all come with ebonite stems. Fine grained sandblasting and new advanced equipment give my pipes a very detailed and deep surface. The best pieces are stamped with a swan. The briar I use comes from the world´s best cutter, Mimmo in Italy. Many of my blasted pipes have no spots and therefore very light colours as tan sand or virgin. All blasted pipes are made with an acrylic stem. As accents I may use materials like amber, box wood, rosewood, bamboo, horn and bone.

How To Buy?

You'll see I don't have links to PayPal to buy a pipe or accessories on my site, I don't like the idea of hitting a button and buying a pipe. Call me old fashioned but I want to know who's buying a pipe from me. Here is How to Buy »
